Here is the exact Quote Regarding Murphy Brown."...if a single mother raising her children in the ghetto has to worry about drive-by shootings, drug-deals, or whether her children will join gangs and die violently, her already difficult task becomes impossible. It doesn´t help matters when prime time TV has Murphy Brown - a character who supposedly epitomize today´s intelligent, highly paid, professional woman - mocking the importance of fathers - by bearing a child alone, and calling it just another ´Lifestyle Choice´" As you can see Dan Quayle was not putting single mothers down, but
rather attempting to champion their cause. The point of the quote was
that the importance of a father role in a child´s development, not
the inability of the single mother to raise her child. He actually
somewhat ´Champions the case´ of the single mother by pointing out how
much more difficult her task is from the dual parent household, he
never even implies that they are less qualified for the job. This
speech was part of the Dan Quayle comments regarding the enforcement
of responsibilities on the "Deadbeat Dads."
How did the media handle this? Look at what the New York Daily News
had to say; Headline
"QUAYLE TO MURPHY BROWN: YOU TRAMP!"Enough said
In the true spirit of a leader, Dan Quayle never once retracted, or
apologized for this statement. Despite all the Chastisement he
endured for this. He is FAR MORE of a leader than our present
democratic president, who consistently changes his opinions, values,
and beliefs to gain the approval of his peers and the electorate
